Obituary of Gerald A. Iannotti
Gerald A. Iannotti, 92, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 12, 2021 at his home.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 13, 1929 a son of the late Sisto and Agnese Dicaprio Iannotti. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.
Gerald received his bachelor’s degree in English from LeMoyne College in Syracuse. He then went on to pursue his master’s degree from Niagara University and received his second master’s degree from SUNY Albany, NY.
Gerald was employed as a Professor at Fulton Montgomery Community College. He also worked as a Professor at Niagara University and SUNY Albany and was a Professor for the St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing at FMCC for many years. He loved his students and his profession.
He was a communicant and lector at the former St. Joseph’s Church in Amsterdam and St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville, NY. He currently was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Gerald also enjoyed attending Mass at the Auriesville Shrine.
He is survived by his dear brother, Father Pascal A. “Pat” Iannotti of Amsterdam. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Vincent, Ralph, Carl and Floyd Iannotti , Rosalie Morrone, Louise Carnevale, Marion Iannotti, Mary Verderese and Sylvia Verderese.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday December 16, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam with Father Brad Milunski as celebrant. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the funeral mass from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY 12010 or the National Shrine of North American Martyrs,136 Shrine Rd., Auriesville, NY 12016.
