Obituary of Thomas Murphy, Jr.
Thomas H. Murphy, Jr., age 74, a lifelong resident of Gloversville, New York, died unexpectedly on December 1, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.
Tom, also known to friends and family as "Duffer", was born on March 20, 1947 in Gloversville, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Bucklin) Murphy. He graduated from Gloversville High School with the class of 1965, and following his education was employed as a Gas and Electric Lineman by Niagara Mohawk, a position he held for over thirty years. He was a member of the Gloversville Elks Club, a member of both the Nick Stoner and Kingsboro Golf Courses, and was a part of the Oak Mountain ski patrol.
Duffer was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying spending time on the beach, hiking in the woods, skiing, camping, and hunting. He also had a talent for repairing, refinishing, and reupholstering furniture, and loved bike racing. Tom also loved animals, especially his Rottweiler, Tank. He could frequently be spotted at Stewarts' Shops, visiting with friends over coffee.
Thomas is survived by his daughters: Teresa (Steven) Murphy-Diviyak, and Heather Ann (Drew) Murphy-Nick; his six grandchildren: Britiny Cole, Marissa Cole, Spencer Cole, Conner Diviyak, Alexis Reams, and Grayson (Kaitlyn) Reams; his four great-grandchildren: Willow Smith, Lea Marie Palmateer, Hazel Baize Palmateer, and Nathan Knoblauch; his sister: Margaret (Peter) Kimple; his nephew: Michael (Julia) Kimple; and Sue Young.
He was predeceased by both of his parents.
Services for Thomas will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
