Obituary of Louis R. Piazza
Mr. Louis R. Piazza, 76, of Amsterdam, passed away on Friday November 26, 2021 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Lou was born in Gloversville on April 11, 1945 to Carmelo and Rose Tascillo Piazza. He was a 1963 graduate of Gloversville High School and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1965. Lou joined the US Navy in 1966 and served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk and USS Forrestal during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Upon his discharge from the Navy he attended Siena College and received a bachelor’s degree in 1973. He then went on to serve 29 years in the US Coast Guard Reserves retiring in 2005 as a Master Chief. Lou worked for 35 years in tele-communications retiring in 2008.
Lou was a devoted family man and friend to many. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gail Mancini Piazza, his loving son, Louis (Sasha) Piazza of Chicago, IL and daughter, Marcie Lynn Piazza of Schenectady, NY. His brothers, Andrew (Marie) Piazza, Peter (Patricia) Piazza, Anthony (Sofia) Piazza, Frank (Peggy) Piazza, Roy (Connie) Piazza and a sister, Angeline (Floyd) Blowers. His Mother-in-law, Verna Mancini, Brother-in-law, Gary (Alejandra) Mancini and Sister-in-law, Linda Mancini. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph and Ralph Piazza and a sister, Millie DeMezza.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Military honors will be rendered in the church following the funeral mass. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Truax Rd. Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 2, 2021 prior to the Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
