Matt was younger than me and school friends with my younger brothers, but I ended up becoming good friends with him after I graduated from college and lived with my parents (Rocco and Marlene Nalli) in Fort Plain. We hung out all the time, and together we learned to play all sorts of R.E.M. songs on acoustic guitars. Matt (and his brother Mike) ended up becoming friends with my entire family, including my parents (and vice versa, as I would end up spending a lot of time over at his parents' house on Mohawk Street), and we would see them regularly during holidays or at my brother Joe's summer Honey Hill Fest. He was always a life of the party and lots of fun to be around, and I will miss him. R.I.P. Matt.

My youngest brothers, cool musicians themselves, introduced me to CARBONE (Matt) many years ago, a cool far-out rock guitarist. What a funny, smart, friendly, talented guy! I always liked him... a lot. Over time, what a beautiful family he helped create. Children as smart and sweet and talented as he. At one point, I also worked with him, when he was a Probation Officer. He was among the best PO's, if not THE best, of the many that I worked with over many years. He cared, he was a human being about it, he was insightful and courageous, he was not a company clone. (But he did like to clown.) I am surprised to find out how strongly affected I have been, and still am, by his going away. My eyes have been a lot wetter than usual this week. So, farewell to our kind, loving friend, father, brother, son. We will have to carry on. His memory will be a source of inspiration for all who have known him. RIP CARBONE!

I had the pleasure of meeting Matt through Cindy. I worked with her in the past. They invited me & my family to their home for a party. There I had a great time & said "you don't even know"! It's what Matt said to me EVERY time I had the pleasure of seeing him! It was our thing! Matt was one of the most admirable dads I've had the blessing to know! May he R.I.P. Until we meet again Matt! My fondest memory of Matt was watching him play his music from the saxophone to the Fender guitar then other guitars, and acoustic guitar he was so at peace and you could always see how much he enjoyed it. I remember how he lit up when he and Cindy first met at HCCC, talking with him about the young relationship and then to see that same joy in him when Allison was born, these were the fondest memories among the many he shared while being a friend. A friend I will solely miss and honored to have known. Thank you Matt.
