Dean was the son of my best friend, Sherry Myers Freeman. Sherry & I met when Dean was a little boy. He was quiet & kind, very protective of his younger brother, Baby. Dean loved my pancakes, more so, waffles with strawberries. I remember the day when Dean was playing - jumping on his bed, & broke his leg. He cried silently, tears streaming down his cheeks. As Dean grew up, he would always love to cook. He made a lot of good food for his Mom. When Sherry became very ill, it was Dean who would help her. He went to work with her, helping her so she could keep her jobs as long as possible. He carried her oxygen tank to the car, & went with us to have lunch, or get ice cream - they both loved chocolate. I worried about Dean when Sherry passed. Sadly, he went to live with his brother in Fl. I didn't see Dean for a few years. He returned home & found work. He told me what happened & where he lived. Time passed. The next time I saw him was at the Paul Nigra Center, where he & my daughter, were showing their art works. Dean was very proud of his work, as he should have been. The shy, loving & kind little boy grew to be an accomplished & talented artist. Art, like music, lives forever. Dean will always live through his art.

Prior to my retirement, I worked with Richard at what was then Lexington's Senior Day Hab Program. While Richard worked hard toward remaining as independent as possible, his gentle spirit was always obvious. He took pleasure in artistic endeavors and always made a point of showing me photos of his paintings on his phone, as well as letting me know when and where his artwork would be on display. At such events, seeing Richard standing next to his artwork, it was easily seen how gratifying and how important it was to Richard to be appreciated as an artist. May his artwork continue to be appreciated... and may his spirit be blessed.

I had the pleasure of working with Richard for several years through the Literacy Program. He was a remarkable guy. We read some interesting books together. One was the history of the Wright Brothers. Another was a history of Native Americans. He had a wonderful curious mind. His artwork was incredible.
