Obituary of Michela Speranza

Mrs. Michela “Michelina” Speranza, 78, of Stella Lane, Amsterdam, NY died suddenly on Friday, April 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Born in Salerno, Italy on January 3, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Carolina Botti Foccillo.

 

On January 15, 1970 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gesù Speranza.  In April of that same year, the couple began their life together in the United States and settled in Amsterdam. That union was blessed with 24 years, until his passing on September 30, 1994.

 

Michela worked in various glove factories throughout her life time as a glove maker.  She was a parishioner of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church as was member of the St. Sofia Society.  She was also a former committee member at St. Stanislaus Church.  Michela enjoyed baking, cooking, traveling, playing bingo, and the occasional trip to the Casino.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Her loving family includes her three daughters, Maria Nielsen and her husband Eric, Vittoria Speranza and Anella “Lally” Speranza; her beloved granddaughter, Isabella; one brother, Nicola Foccillo and his wife Morena of Verona, Italy; sisters-in-law, Maria Speranza Desiderio of Eboli, Italy and Vittoria Speranza D’Acunto of Pontecagano, Italy; and many nieces and nephews.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 9a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church 50- 52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Masks and social distancing are required.
