Dear Ms Esper: I am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing last year. I was looking him up to make a connection after many years. Dave and I were student interns through WVU School of Social Work, at Warren State Hospital in 1977. So the two of us were given room and board, in the middle of a bad winter, holed up in a remote and draconian place, alone against a sea of mental illness (not ours). Since winter was bad, we spent four months together hanging out, mostly in our rooms, talking. Listened to much music, and whenever I listen to Gordon Lightfoot I think of Dave. I am so sad to learn of Dave’s passing Kathy. I met Dave many years ago when we both were young. We shared many wonderful adventures together when he lived in Ogdensburg and later after he moved to Utica. Dave always was interested in others, had a curious nature and was always so kind. Meeting you was the greatest event of his life and he was thrilled to tell me that he was getting married. I regret that I haven’t kept in touch for the last few years, but Dave often comes to mind. He will be missed by many.

Larry and I are crushed to hear of the passing of our dear friend, David. Having known David over 30+ years, we are Blessed to have shared so many fun times with him . Remembering when he first started ordering fishing gear from Cabelas and giving us that great big smile ! He so loved the outdoors. Meeting Kathy was one of the biggest events in his life. He truly loved Kathy from the deepest part of his heart . We are so thankful that we all got to spend sometime together last March. It was as if we had not moved 20 yrs ago.

It was with deep sadness that I learned of Dave’s passing. It was a chance meeting that we had many years ago fly fishing on the West Canada. We gradually went from acquaintances to friends - fishing evenings on the West Canada to trips to the Ausable. Uniquely talented, Dave gave freely of himself - mentoring new fly fishers and helping others when he could. Always enjoyed his company and conversation on many subjects. He was always a patient, positive person - never uttering a harsh word. On evenings after fishing the West Canada if he was to leave before me, I would always find a cold drink on the car bumper. Dave - when I’m on the West Canada and evening shadows grow long, I will think of you and be thankful for our friendship. Peace and tight lines. Kathy and family - you are in my thoughts.

I have many memories of the Esper family. I went to school with David from St. Mary's to Bishop Burke. We spent time in the Cold Springs woods with our Daisy BB guns and played with the Lionel Trains in his parent's basement.
I remember Anita at Burke and worked with Jim for many years at the Fire Department. Not to mention Dr. Esper was my physician. Good memories mixed with a sad note.

I’m so sorry to hear of David’s passing. I have fond memories of him as a classmate at Saint Mary’s School and Bishop Burke High. I always remember him as soft-spoken and easy-going. I’m not surprised he followed a career of helping others.
