Obituary of Helen V. Bedell
Mrs. Helen V. Bedell, 98, of Amsterdam died peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Born on February 5, 1922 to the late Albert and Frances (Kondrat) Korzeniewski, she was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1941. Helen was very proud of being employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady during WWII, as she felt she did her part to help in the war effort. Helen worked for Mohawk Mills; Almor Drug Company and was later employed by Ward Products in Amsterdam where she retired from in 1984.
Helen was a Parishioner of the former St. Casimir's Church later becoming a parishioner of Historic St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. "Her family has been her life". Helen enjoyed day trips with her late husband Charles, to Sylvan Beach, Saratoga Race Track, Lake George, and riding through Vermont to see the fall foliage. Helen loved watching her NY Giants Football team and every year she loved watching the Syracuse and Duke Basketball Teams play, and always looked forward to the March Madness Basketball play offs. Helen enjoyed spending time sharpening her memory by working on word search puzzles.
Walking through Amsterdam. She never drove a car. She would walk from her home to Market Hill or as far as St. Mary's Hospital. Friends and her neighbors would see her and offer her a ride, but she would always say. "Thank You. I love to walk".
On October, 1943 she was united in marriage at St. Stanislaus Church to Charles Bedell who passed away September 8, 2013. She was also predeceased by her two sons, Charles H. Bedell III and Gary A. Bedell; two brothers, Frank and George and her two sisters, Jean and her twin sister Agnes.
Her loving family includes her daughter, Sandra L. (Dwight) Smarup of Gloversville, NY; daughter-in-law, Gerda Bedell, Aurora, CO, her grandchildren, Amy Hutzel, Michelle Bedell, Sean Smarup, Wendy Lussier and Melanie Bedell; her great grandchildren: Karly, Katy, Corey, Zane, Kyle, Violet, Nathanial, Collin, Isabella Rose, Olivia and Kody as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jeffrey L’ Arche M.S. officiating. The funeral will be live streamed on the BRBS Facebook Page.
Interment will follow in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam, New York.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 4 until 7p.m. at the funeral home.
