Obituary Jane A. Marotta

Jane Ann Marotta, age 79, passed away peacefully April 25, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born August 9, 1940 in Amsterdam, New York to Milton and Katherine (Norman) Nethaway.  On February 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, Eugene Marotta, who preceded her in death in 1977.

Jane was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her nine children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a grandmother and great grandmother.  She had gone through much more than many of us would deem fair in a lifetime. She widowed a month before turning 37 and raised her children as a single mom, ages 4 – 16 years old.  She didn’t have time to mourn because she had to take care of her children and made sure we moved forward as a family. Most importantly, she gave us the love, time and space to figure things out, make mistakes, take risks and to do whatever we needed to do. She taught us how to live life to the fullest with faith and hope. Her greatest love was her family and her children will forever be proud to call her mom.

Jane was an incredible woman with a huge heart.  She gave so much of herself to others and many consider her their second mother!  She loved traveling and spending the winter months in NC with her daughter, son and their families.  Jane also enjoyed watching sports, donating her money to the casinos, playing bingo, crosswords, her scratch off tickets, cooking, playing her favorite numbers and listening to her favorite artist, Elvis Presley. Jane was active in her community and church and chose to follow her passion for cooking, turning it into a rewarding career, creating a stable life for her family.

Her loving family includes her daughters Gigi Satterlee (Mike) of Johnstown,  Angela Meyer (George), of Sloansville, Jenine Gifford (Bill Kniskern) of Johnstown, Kitty Marotta (Jimmy Lyons) of Gloversville, Rosa Mascardi (Rick) Wake Forest, NC, her sons Gino Marotta (Kristen) of Northville, Peter Marotta (Yvonne) of Franklinton, NC, Jamie Marotta (Michele) of Gloversville, Armand Marotta (Jean Hotaling) of Gloversville, her grandchildren Phillip Satterlee (Laura), Kayla Kucel (AJ), Bryanna & Victoria Marotta, Jacob Marotta, George III, Kaitlyn, Marlena & Mallorie Meyer, Nicole Gifford, Emily & Ashley Marotta, Mackenzie Pietzak (Eddie), Michael Marotta, Tamara Thomas (Dylan Schrader), Matteo & Marissa Mascardi, great-grandchildren Kohl, Alaric & Lucas Schrader, her sisters Barbara DiMarco of Gloversville, Lelia Wilczak, and Shirley Emmanuel of Amsterdam, Sisters in-law Audrey Nethaway and Cherie Nethaway . She was predeceased by her brothers Charles Nethaway, Willard Nethaway, Robert Nethaway, Gerald Nethaway, sisters, Mildred Majewski and Dorothy Nethaway. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of WakeMed Hospital and Kindred Hospice for their incredible care of our mom.
