Sophie Irene Kenna (Leszczynski) R.N., passed away on April 12, 2020 at Sunrise Senior Living in Yardley, PA. She was 93.
Born in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Katherine (Trybek) Leszczynski. She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Leszczynski and brother Alfred Leszczynski.
Sophie graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and continued her education to become an RN at St. Mary’s School of Nursing, graduating in June 1947. She was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps from 1944-1947. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and moved to Amsterdam Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1996. While at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital she held many positions, Head Nurse, Utilization Review Coordinator, Quality Assurance Coordinator, Extended Care Supervisor and helped set up the hospital based Nursing Home, to name a few.
Some of Sophie’s secret talents included being an excellent cook and baker; homemade macaroni & cheese and apple pie were her specialties and often requested by her grandchildren at our family holiday gatherings. She enjoyed reading, music, a good deal at the store but most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Sophie was the loving wife of Edward L. Kenna. They were married on July 1, 1950 and were together until Edward’s death on October 19, 1984. Sophie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Aunt.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Edward M. Kenna and his fiancé Anne Bush, Daniel A. Kenna, Bruce A. Kenna, Karen E. (Kenna) Brodeur and her husband Russell Brodeur, and James A.(Gladys Feliciano) Kenna. She had 12 grandchildren, Shannon, William, Sara, Lindsey, Ashley, Christine, Cheryl, Allison, David, Chad, Matthew and Tracy and was great-grandmother to 25. A sister-in-law, Evelyn Leszcynski. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive.
We would like to thank Sophie’s friends, Barbara and Jerry Faulds, Diane Rozdolski and Betty Agedal, for their love and support of Sophie through the years.
