I worked for many years with Mrs. Kenna she was a very kind and compassionate person and nurse and I enjoyed working with her in her many capacities at AMH . They don't make many nurses like her anymore if any. I am so sorry for your loss. God has another angel. Gail Pacillo Wiley.

It was with sadness that I learned of Sophie’s passing today. But it also evoked fond memories of a truly remarkable human being and colleague. Sophie was one of my first mentors when I began working as a novice social worker at Amsterdam Memorial many years ago. She was knowledgeable in so many areas beyond nursing and was a true pioneer in the field of long term care. I know I learned a lot from her. She was kind and generous, not only to patients and residents, but also to her fellow staff members. We all benefited from her healing touch!
To her family I would like to say that she often spoke of her children with love and pride. She made an immeasurable contribution to the quality of care at the hospital and nursing home ( ECF, SNF!).
With condolences and best regards,
Jan Duchessi

To Sophie's family,
So sorry your mom is gone. I worked with her at AMH. On time she used touch therapy to get rid of a headache I had. Her eyes have always haunted me. They looked as if they could see into your soul. I don't believe anyone could not tell the truth around her, as it seemed she could see right through you. She was a nice person and had great strength. So glad to have known Sophie.
May God comfort you at this time.

I remember going to see Sophie walking accross the street to see why my stomach was hurting so bad. She asked what id been doing? I said nothing, just studying for final exams, I think it was my Sophomore year at Perth HS. She knew right off, telling me not to worry so much and I needed to take a break, she could feel the stress in my neck and gently massaged it and my shoulders quite breifly...I calmed down laughed a bit not sure about it in disbelief. Well she was right and I never again let worrying about schoolwork manifest into physical conditions! I remember it had bothered me a few days before gathering the nerve to go see her, i thought i had an ulcer. Funny now, but did she ever know life and what really matters.... LOVE...THANK YOU SOPHIE your soul touches us all who know it!

We have lost another from the GREAT Generation. Your mom was a wonderful neighbor and helped us many times over the years. She raised some great kids who have great families, and had LOTs of Grand Children as well. I’ll miss her, as I’m sure Diane will. Mike Rozdolski

Sophie Kenna, RN, was a beautiful, caring person. I enjoyed our years together at Amsterdam Memorial. She was professional and admired by co-workers, physicians, and her patients. May she rest in well deserved peace.
