Obituary of William J. Gilston, Jr.
William J. Gilston Jr; 76, of Amsterdam passed away March 20, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 27, 1944 in Denver, Colorado, and is the son of the late William J. and Eileen (Bouton) Gilston Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, whom he married on September 30, 1972, Rosemary A. (Boice) Gilston of Amsterdam. His children William J. Gilston III of Fort Hunter, Amanda R. Gilston of Amsterdam, and Kelly E. Gilston of Amsterdam; a brother Joseph W. Gilston of Broadalbin, and a sister Mary Eileen Gilston of Amsterdam. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren which he adored Aelicia Gilston, Isabella Orengo, and Francisco Carmona.
During his lifetime William was known to most as Investigator William J. Gilston Jr; serving the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for 42 years retiring in 2010. Investigator Gilston held many positions within the office including Deputy, Special Assignment Deputy, Sergeant and Investigator. He also served our country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1969, serving in Vietnam assigned to the 12th Air Police Squadron. Investigator Gilston was a hardworking, loyal professional who always cared more about his community than himself. He was a family man and cared for his family more than anything. William was an original member of the Irish American Club, and a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge.
