Gilston Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of William J. Gilston Jr.'s passing. Yet, on reading his obituary, I am honored to have learned about his extraordinary character. I am immensely proud of this family's history and values - service to country, community, and, most importantly, family; and William J. Gilston Jr.'s legacy is one that seems to define, and further these values.
With love, respect, and condolences,
Sean Richard Gilston

So sorry to hear of my old pal Billy's passing. I had many a long talk with Bill about the "good ole days". Many stories from his days at the old jail in Fonda and about working road patrol back when. A story or two about his days in Viet-nam as well. He also told me the story of his day when the Fort Hunter bridge collapsed, a couple times. I have missed working with him terribly. RIP my Brother. S Whitman

In July of 1971 I started my first day with the Amsterdam Police Department.
My first assignment was with a man who had vast knowledge of law enforcement. That Police Officer was, William Gilston.
In the early part of my career I learned a lot from this man, knowledge I gained from him would carry me on to be a betterPolice Officer and helped me in my later years as a Detective with APD.
I thank you Billy Gilston for all of this and I say to you now, Rest In Peace Brother, you were a great man here and now God has you working for him in that great PD in Heaven.
