Obituary of Phyllis Ann Unislawski
Phyllis Ann Unislawski passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2019 in River Ridge Living Center fighting a second round of pneumonia and a longer battle with lung cancer. She was born in Herkimer, New York on November 5, 1933, to Samuel and Mary Coplon. The family later moved to Gloversville where Phyllis attended Columbia Grade School, Estee Junior High School, and Gloversville High School. She then went on to Becker Junior College in Worster, MA, receiving a secretarial degree in 1953. Following graduation from Becker, she worked as a secretary for General Electric in Schenectady.
She married Ralph Unislawski at St. James Lutheran Church on September 6, 1953. Several years later, Ralph and Phyllis owned and operated the Korner Kupboard Bakery in Johnstown for nearly 30 years until their retirement in 1989.
She and Ralph enjoyed cross-country skiing, travelling, and working around their home in Johnstown. Phyllis was also active as a volunteer at the former YWCA, assisting with their Monday night bingo for many years, a member of the Sammonsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary and as a member of the Johnstown Senior Citizens Center and their Fifty Plus Club. Phyllis was an avid reader and kept a journal of the hundreds of books she read.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Ralph in 2000; her parents; her sister, Barbara Holly three weeks ago; two brothers-in-law, and a nephew. She is survived by her sons Eric (Joann Manieri), Jeffrey (Terri Friedman), and Todd (Sharon); grandchildren Jennifer, Callie, Jana, Tyler, and Justin; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephew.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 3 PM Saturday, December 21 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3PM with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Cremation took place at ParkView Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

The family would like to thank the teams at River Ridge Living Center, Wells Nursing Home, St. Mary’s Healthcare and the Oncology Department at the Rao Pavilion, and St. Peters Health Partners for all of the care and compassion she received over the past year and a half.
