Obituary of Phoebe E. Boschi

Mrs. Phoebe E. Boschi, 90, of Amsterdam entered into eternal life on Wednesday morning October 23, 2019 after a brief illness.  She was born on October 7, 1929 in Gloversville to the late Livingston (Dick) and Elvira (Irene) Gisondi.

Phoebe is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Alexander E. Boschi; her son, John Boschi of Amsterdam; her daughter, Sharon Hammer (Dave) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Christopher Hammer and Ashlee Miller (Josh) and great-grandson, Micah Hammer all of Indianapolis.  Phoebe is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Phoebe attended Gloversville High School and received her Bachelor‘s degree in mathematics from The College of St. Rose in Albany.  She received her Master’s in Education from SUNY Albany.  She began her teaching career as a mathematics educator and continued as a guidance counselor at Fonda-Fultonville Central School.  After taking time away from her career to raise her two children, Phoebe returned to the classroom as a Pre-K teacher in Amsterdam and finally as a mathematics educator at Wilbur H. Lynch Middle School before retiring in 1991.  In addition, she taught summer school at FMCC and was a dedicated mathematics tutor for countless middle and high school students.  As a teacher, she was a role model, an inspiration and a mentor for her colleagues and students and served on several building and district committees.

Mrs. Boschi was also extremely active in her community serving for many years as both a member of the scholarship committee for the Century Club and a chair of group lunches for the Festival of Trees.  She served on the Board of Directors for Amsterdam Retired Teachers Association, was a board member for the Office for the Aging, and worked as a NYS Legislative Lobbyist for Retiree Council 12.  She was also membership chair for NYS Retired Teachers Organization, program coordinator for Amsterdam Community Concerts and active in American Association of University Women.

She was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

In her retirement Phoebe loved cooking for her family and friends and often spent time traveling with her husband and close friends.  Her passion and greatest joys, however, were her children, grandchildren and great-grandson.  She was always the first to talk about their accomplishments and show photos of them to everyone she knew.
