Obituary of Julia Martin
Mrs. Julia Martin, age 90, of Gloversville, passed Tuesday morning, July 9, 2019 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville.
She was born January 31, 1929 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Martin and Lottie Schults Tlustachowski. She was a 1946 graduate of Johnstown High School and received her BS in Homemaking at Buffalo State Teacher's College in 1950. She later received her MS in Elementary Education at Oneonta State Teacher's College in 1958.
Julia was employed as a School Teacher by the Stratford, Oppenheim, Johnstown and Gloversville School Districts.
She was a member of The Church of the Holy Spirit, Johnstown Women of the Moose, Concordia Club Auxiliary, NY State Teacher's Association and Fulton County Retired Teacher's Association. She was affiliated in the past with A.F.S. and was a past member of the Gloversville Senior Center and it's Board of Directors and their representative for United Way. She was a member of the Home Bureau- Gabby Gals, OFA Advisory Council, Ida McGinnis Senior Club, Crimson Fedorables of the Red Hat Ladies. She also served on the Committee for Interfaith Tea.
Julia is survived by four children, Michael Martin (Cathy) of Gloversville, Mark Martin of Gloversville, Kathleen Martin - Comer of Fairfax, VA and Cheryl Andrist (Bill) of Mayfileld; eight grandchildren, Amy Wilson, Michelle Ivery, Michael Martin, Ali Martin, Nancy Trembacz, Joseph Andrist, Meghan Comer and Thomas Comer; four great-grandchildren, Dante Ivery, Addison Ivery, Michael Martin and Austin Trembacz; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Martin and Rose Mazur.
In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Martin who passed in 1996, whom she married on April 7, 1951; a daughter, Deborah; a brother, Stanley Tlustachowski; a sister, Helen Sena; a brother-in-law, Jim Sena, a nephew, Jimmy Sena Jr; mother-in-law, Anna B. Martin; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Francis Martin and a brother-in-law, William Martin.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7pm Monday, July 15 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00am Tuesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating.
Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
