Dear John,
I wanted to write a poem for Mary Ann. I hope it is okay.
We all miss her very much.
Sincerely,
Chris
Dear Mary Ann, I miss you every day,
These sad, incomprehensing (of what happened) feelings, never go away.
We worked together - cube mates - 9 solid years,
And you should still be here, instead of these bummer tears.
I am not a poet, but I feel compelled to try this,
I want to tell you, Mary Ann – how your presence we do so miss.
I have so many memories, 9 years is a dang long time,
But foo on memories – we just want to have you back! Oh, gosh that doesn’t rhyme -
I remember the sound of you talking, you often had a lot going on,
Many phone calls were meetings or work stuff – but also from John or your Mom.
People also showed up to your desk a lot - your opinion, or input, or permission they sought,
Or when having too much stress or difficulties – they’d come to you to get cheered up!
Like how Carole used to come to your cube, all spun up and feeling not happy,
But after venting to you for a while, I’d hear you both end up laughing.
And I remember all the colors and designs, with your clothes you showed your style,
You’d hike down the hall to a meeting, your skirt with a fringed sash rippling all the while.
And all your lovely, keepsake jewelry, I wonder now the stories for each of your rings,
Earrings and necklaces – the Alex and Ani bracelets – I remember the sounds of them jingling.
Your work ethic out-beat everyone, always fierce and intensely focused,
For all this code, with the rules they’ll comply - we’re QA, they can’t resist us!
But you also had your off-work, fun side, and something I love to remember,
How we’d hear something we both found funny, and together we’d giggle and snicker.
And from John’s EHS position, there was insider info you could get,
I still have the yellow sticky where you wrote, “I think there’s a Fire Drill at 10”.
I’ve seen many pictures of happy times - at the beach, a concert, and a party,
But the one I like best is one you sent to me – of you and John on snow skis and smiling.
There’s been so much for us to talk about, I can picture the dismay upon your face,
From me telling you of our accident, how the car crashed down onto Chase.
This reality is just too harsh, and at only 58,
You should’ve had tons more time, on this I’d sure mandate!
And the truth is for memories I don’t have a lot – not as many as I should, I feel.
Because for me this all happened too fast, and the finality of it still doesn’t seem real.
I was too absorbed with all my own troubles, with Shea’s illness, and all the rest,
And now you’re gone and I never can believe it - and I wish you could be back again.

I am so very saddened to learn of Mary Ann's passing. She held a special place in my heart. I always enjoyed Mary Ann's determination and commitment to take care of what was important to her (her family and her loved ones). She was a great listener and you could count on her to take care of things.
I am lucky to have known her and worked with her for nearly 20 years. I will miss her dearly.
God Bless and Be Well in the Heavens Mary Ann! I will do my part in watching over John and Michael to the best of my ability.

I met Mary Ann through her volunteerism at Fountain Hills High School in Arizona. I could always call her to help anytime and she even answered the call after Mike graduated! She came back the following year to help at Falcon Fiesta, the all night party at the school following graduation. Mary Ann always had a huge heart, especially when it came to helping others. We will miss her warm smile, generous spirit and her love of people. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. She was a very bright light during her very brief life.

John and Michael,
I was so sorry to hear about Mary Ann. I know she is in a better place. I miss her bunches here at the office as she was the one I went to vent because I knew I would be leaving laughing at the idiosyncrasies of the world around us. I'll always remember her laugh because it was so unique.
Take care and know that my sympathies are with you.

Mary Ann and I were very close when I lived on Lakeshore Drive, and for a while afterward, when I moved to Bradfordville. I spent many, many hours at her house, and she at mine. We would sit up on a hill behind her house and watch the construction of I-10, if we weren't playing basketball, swimming at my house, or looking through her teen magazines at the latest "heartthrob". She especially liked Darby Hinton, who played "Israel" on "Daniel Boone". We also used to sing Elton John songs in the Raa Middle School Library while we waited for her mother to get off of work. The first time I ever rode the double Ferris wheel at the fair, was with her. We were scared, but we held hands the entire time. We rode it again and again and again. I loved her so much, and have thought of her often over the years. I am so glad I found her recently through Facebook.
My heartfelt condolences to her entire family. I know you were very proud of her, and everything she accomplished. I never had any doubt she would grow-up to be an extraordinary woman, wife, and mother. She was the best. Rest in peace, my dear sweet friend.
