Obituary of MaryAnn Hopkins
Mrs. Mary Ann Hopkins, R.N. of Ballston Spa, New York died peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 with family at her side. She was 73 years of age.
Born in Deland, Florida on February 9, 1945 she was the daughter of Lt. Joseph W. Wilson, USMC (1922-1947) and Dorothy Butterweck Wilson Marshall. Following the loss of Lt. Wilson, Dorothy married Richard Marshall who took great pride and care in raising Mary Ann.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Burlington Senior High School in Burlington, New Jersey, and Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, New Jersey. Her distinguished nursing career spanned 40 years until her retirement from St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, New York following 27 years of service. After her retirement, she and her husband, Louis, enjoyed time in Sun City, Arizona where they formed many new friendships. During this time, Mary Ann was an active member of The Cedar Oaks Condominium Association, planning social activities and serving as Secretary. She enjoyed travel with family and friends, gatherings to share her homemade recipes and creating handmade needlework that she gifted to loved ones. Her greatest joy in life was being a caregiver for her family, especially to her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mimi.” She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Louis C. Hopkins; two daughters, Jennifer E. Vickers and her husband George, of Perth, NY and Tara L. Hopkins-Papura and her husband William, of Saratoga, NY; three grandchildren, Jacob Vickers, Melanie Vickers and Andrew Papura; one brother, Richard Joseph Marshall and his wife Frances of Burlington, NJ; a niece Madison Swiernik and her husband Ben of Burlington, NJ; a nephew, Craig Marshall and his wife Judith of Cherry Hill, NJ; two great nieces Sadie Swiernik and Elizabeth Marshall; and an aunt, Dorothy Wilson Comegno Gembicz of Marlton, NJ. Many cousins also survive.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E Union Street, Burlington, NJ 08016. Calling hours will begin at 11a.m. with a memorial service commencing at 1p.m. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington, NJ.
