Obituary of George V. Rossi
Mr. George V. Rossi, 82, of the Town of Perth, NY passed away on October 5, 2018 at Albany Medical Center with loving family at his side. He was born on August 31, 1936 in Amsterdam, NY to the , late George and Emma May (LaMothe) Rossi.
He was married on July 14, 1957, to Breta Hallenbeck Rossi, whom preceded his death on August 5, 2017. They resided in the City of Amsterdam then later moved to Town of Perth in 1964. They raised their four sons Michael (Tracey) Rossi of Barre VT, David Rossi ( Amanda ) Miami Florida, George P. (Marlene) Rossi of Perth, Jamie (Tressa) Rossi of Perth in that home. Their home was also welcome to many extended family to include his mother in law Julia and many other members of the extended family. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Kyle, Christopher, Tauna, Rhiannon, Jeffrey, Michelle, Amanda, Morgan and Anthony. George also has four great grandchildren.
George was survived by his supportive and loving younger sister Patricia ( Joe ) Bezak of Hagaman and brother Richard ( Wanda )Rossi of Paisley, Florida. He has many loved nieces and nephews that he influenced throughout their lifetime.
George is predeceased by a son Jeffrey Rossi, a grandson Nicholas Lee Rossi, and his loving wife Breta
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1955. He was employed for over 35 years as a Plumber and Steamfitter for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY, retiring in 2000. He also served as the first Code Enforcer in the Town of Perth. George was a communicant of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, NY.
His dedication of over 50 years to the Perth Fire Department will not go unnoticed. He was a Life Member, Former Chief and President of this department. He was member of the Fireman's Association of the State of NY ( FASNY), N Y State Association of Fire Chiefs, Fulton County Fire Investigation Team, Quarter Century Club of GE, Bigelow Weavers Club in Amsterdam, and Johnstown Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, tinkering in his garage and spending time with family and friends. George loved to travel, he enjoyed to travel with their lifelong friends and family, Bill and Betty Maines, George and Bev Kreisel and Joe and Patricia Bezak.
George was diagnosed with multiple physical condition and never gave up, he never complained, always maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of the future. His smile will be forever remembered for those that he knew and crossed path with. He was an inspiration to all and mentored many at the local Fire Department.
George was an amazing man that when called for help, would put his life on hold for everyone else. This could be broken down furnaces in cold winter or an alarm from the fire house.
His family does not want to say goodbye though is saying “ we will see you later, pop “
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday October 13, 2018 at 11:00AM at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, 51 Pawling St., Hagaman, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hagaman following a procession to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department for the "Last Alarm" for Mr. Rossi. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday October 12, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, 4080 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
