Obituary of Jay W. Bombard
Jay Wright Bombard, 94, of Amsterdam, NY passed away on May 5, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Massena, NY on August 16, 1923 to the late Leon and Beatrice Wright Bombard. Jay served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Panama during World War II. On July 6, 1946, Jay married Gloria Dunham Bombard and together celebrated over 70 wedding anniversaries. Jay worked at ALCOA in Massena for 43 years prior to his retirement in 1986. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as lector, liturgist and Sunday School superintendent. Jay most enjoyed his many years of supervising and training the acolytes at church. Jay was outgoing, well liked, had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, classical music and the NY Giants.
Jay is predeceased by his wife Gloria, his brother Gerald Bombard and his sister Beverly Ashley.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sheila (William) McDonald of Johnstown and Sherry (Earl) Jerome of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, Julie (Chris) of Ballston Spa and Michelle (Nicole) Lanoue of Palm Bay, Fl. and three great-grandsons, Nicholas, Joshua and Matthew Bablin, as well as five nieces.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Jay will be buried next to his wife at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jay’s name to the Grace United Methodist Church, 45 NY 37C, Massena, NY 13662.
