Obituary of Kathleen M. Conti
Mrs. Kathleen M. “Kathy” Scafidi Conti, 80, of Amsterdam, passed away Friday May 4, 2018 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 1, 1937 a daughter of the late Dominick and Maria London Scafidi.
She was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School class of 1955.
Kathleen was employed as the Surgical Scheduling Counselor for over 27 years at the Dr. John R. Kearney Cataract Care Center in the satellite office in Amsterdam. She began her employment with the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. She then went to work for G.E. in Schenectady. She also worked for the Greater Amsterdam School District for a time in the cafeteria.
Kathleen was a member of the After Care Cataract Support Group at Dr. Kearney’s office. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at various soup kitchens and food pantries.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining her friends, shopping, trips to the casino and watching her favorite basketball team the NY Knicks.
Kathy was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where on September 25, 1960 she married her beloved Frank A. Conti Sr. He passed away on December 7, 2007.
She leaves her beloved daughter; Lisamarie San (Jason Nemet) of Amsterdam; a cherished grandson; Joseph A. Conti of Tampa Florida; her granddog Logan who was her pride and joy; a dear sister; Donna (Ron) Cuomo of Schenectady, NY, two nieces; Marisa Zarrillo and Michele (Miner) Stevens of Schenectady. Great nephews, Anthony Zarrillo, Brandon and Trevor Stevens. Her dear friend of 65 years Connie Hinkel and her friend of 55 years Donna House and her other beloved friends. Several cousins also survive.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, PGA Golf Professional, Frank A. Conti Jr., whom she lost on July 5, 1996. Her sister-in-law, Anne LaGreca and her mother-in-law, Helen Conti.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 10, 2018 at 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY with Father Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A calling period will be held prior to the funeral mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, beginning at 10:00A.M. Flowers are acceptable, however those desiring may make a contributions in Kathleen’s memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.
