Obituary of Clara B. Mitchell
Mrs. Clara Mitchell, 97, of Streeter Road, Fonda, New York died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Born in Amsterdam, New York on November 30, 1920 she was the daughter of the late William and Petronelle Bluvas.
A lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, Clara graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1938. She then went on to attend Hartwick College and graduated in 1942.
On August 4, 1946 she was united in marriage to Stanley Mitchell. That union lasted 50 wonderful years until his passing on October 25, 1996. She was employed in the family business, The Mitchell Paper Company in Fonda and was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s R.C. Church. She was also predeceased by her sister Wilhelmina Bluvas Leahy.
Survivors include her two children, Stanley Mitchell and his wife Cindy and Lorna Quinn and her husband Bill; four grandchildren, Joshua Mitchell, Will Quinn, Nate Quinn and Seth Mitchell and his fiancé Jessica Bartalsky; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 1p.m. at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068 with the Rev. Christopher Welch as celebrant. A calling hour will precede the Mass beginning at 12p.m. at the church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Frothingham Free Library, 28 W. Main Street, Fonda, NY 12068.
