Obituary of John Nicosia
Mr. John Nicosia, formerly of Riceville Road, Town of Mayfield, died peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Gloversville, NY on January 11, 1928 he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Genueffa Argento Nicosia.
A lifelong area resident, John attended local schools and was employed as a Manager for Radio Shack until his retirement. He served proudly in the United States Navy from 1946 – 1947 as a Seaman 1st Class. John was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, The Gloversville Senior Center and the 50-55 Senior Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, dancing and playing cards with the guys. John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
On December 26, 1946 he was united in marriage to Addie Burdow Nicosia. That union sadly ended after 68 years, with her passing on March 18, 2015. He was also predeceased by his siblings Crocifissa, Mary, Anthony, Samuel, Carmen, Peter, Joseph, Madeline and Frances.
Survivors include his sons, John Nicosia (Robert Cofran) of Rochester, NY and Robert Nicosia (Linda Peden) of Seymour, IN, daughters, Christine Nicosia of Gloversville, Sharon Wager (Tim Fagiani) of Mayfield, NY and Barbara Gifford (Dick) of Mayfield, NY. Also, the lights of his life, grandchildren, Marie White, Michael Scott, Christopher Wager, Carrie Sweet, Joshua Gifford and Jennifer VanAllen; several great and great great grandchildren; his siblings, Paul Nicosia of Amsterdam, NY, Vincenzo “Jim” Nicosia (Elaine) of Amsterdam, NY, Josephine Pecorino of Gloversville, NY and Suzanne Buanno (Henry) of CT; many nieces and nephews also survive.
A Gathering for family and friends will take place on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 11.a.m. to 12p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078; followed by a Funeral Service at 12p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gloversville Senior Center.
