Obituary of William L. Nichols

     Mr. William L. Nichols, 77, a longtime resident of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on Thursday,  March 29, 2018 at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility Rehabilitation Center in Amsterdam, NY. 

     Bill fought a long and courageous battle with a disease not known to many as Hidradenitis Suppurative.

     Born in Hunlock Creek, PA on June 2, 1940, son of the late Fred G. and Emily Nichols.  He attended school in Shickshinny, PA and Shickshinny High School. 

     In 1982 he was united in marriage with Lorraine LaMori.  Bill was employed as plant manager at Adirondack Knitting Mills, a subsidiary of Fab Industries in Amsterdam until their closing in 2012.  Before moving to New York, he was employed by Natona Mills in Dallas, PA.  Textiles were a big part of his working career.  In 2003, he and his wife opened West End Wine and Liquor Inc. where he worked right up to March of 2015. 

     Bill was actively involved with sponsoring the wine tastings for the Feline Guardian Angels, The Montgomery County SPCA, the Festival of Trees and Scully’s Angels.   He had great pleasure in decorating for the Christmas Holiday Season and was happy when winning first prize in the Dave’s Landscaping  holiday lighting contest.  Bill enjoyed golfing, deep sea fishing, going to the casino and spending time with his family.

     He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine of 35 years along with his loving little buddy Bailey. 

  He is also survived by his daughters, Vanessa and son-in-law, Peter of Middle Grove, NY,   Belinda Benware  of Middle Grove, NY and  Tonya Alexander and son-in-law, Steven of Hempstead, Texas.   His sisters, Linda Belcher and brother-in-law, Dan from Hunlock Creek, PA and Martha Campbell of PA.   Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.  He is predeceased by his brother,  Fred Nichols and sister Loretta Davis.

     A very special thank you to Dr. Jerome Chao and his staff: Becky and Carli, Karla Giramonti,  Dr. Edward Lee, Dr. Edward Liebers,  Dr. George Weiss, Dr. Sheridan, Dr. Fedullo, Dr. Emily Etzkorn and the entire staff at Albany Medical Center, Wilkinson Health Rehabilitation Center and Kindrid Health Care.

     Funeral services will be held on Monday April 2, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with Father Pascal “Pat” Iannotti presiding.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday prior to the funeral service from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Feline Guardian Angels, PO Box 462, Amsterdam, NY 12010  or to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
