Obituary of Myra W. Strauss

Mrs. Myra Strauss, of Mayfield, NY, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, following a brief illness with her family by her side. She was 96.
A lifelong area resident, Myra was born in Amsterdam, NY, the only child of Benjamin and Lizzie Little Whitbeck. She attended local schools and was employed for the Amsterdam Evening Recorder for many years.  She was a longtime member of the former Second Presbyterian Church and later the United Presbyterian Church of Amsterdam.
Myra enjoyed the Adirondacks and the changes of season. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed hosting family functions. Myra especially enjoyed spending time with her family and Sunday dinners. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
On December 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to John D. Strauss. That union lasted 60 years until his passing on May 10, 1999.
She is survived by her three children, John D. Strauss and his wife Diane, Joan Kozlowski and her husband Frank and Theodore J. Strauss and his wife Mona; four grandchildren, John R. Strauss and his companion Cheryl, Michael A. Strauss and his wife Michelle, Matthew J. Kozlowski and his companion, Megan Lunetta, Elizabeth M. (Ryan) Giaconia; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Hillcrest, Wilkinson and St. Mary's Healthcare for the compassionate care that was extended to Myra throughout her final years.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Calling hours for relatives and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 4 until 6 p.m. Private burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
