Obituary of Robert J. Mongin
Mr. Robert J. Mongin, 63, of Woodrow Road, Amsterdam died suddenly on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late John and Caroline Mongin. Big Bob grew up in the Bronx and moved to Amsterdam nearly 40 years ago.
On March 8, 1975 he was united in marriage to Diane Whitney Mongin. That union lasted until her passing on January 25, 2013. He was also predeceased by his siblings, John, Peter and Helen.
Bob worked for Web Graphics and the Amsterdam Printing Company as a sales manager. He was a handyman of all trades, and if he didn't know how to do something, he learned how. He enjoyed animals, restoring things, woodworking and his fish pond. Most of all he loved his grandchildren, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his three children, Jonathan (Sharon) Mongin, Timothy (Nicole) Mongin, Jennifer Mongin (Robert Mack); his sister, June Van Elk; four grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Nicholas, Michael and Molly; brothers in law, Donald (Catherine) Whitney and Ralph Wheatley; his partner, Patty Cate; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Private burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 until 7p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
