Obituary of Gregory G. Turek

Gregory G. Turek, 68, of Amsterdam, NY, has gone to his eternal rest on Wednesday May 25th, 2016 with his loving family at his side. Born on July 22nd, 1947, he was the son of the late Anna and Joseph Turek. Gregory graduated from Amsterdam high school and went on to obtain his Master's Degree in Social Work from SUNY Albany. For 25 years Gregory helped many people as a social worker for Catholic Charities in Amsterdam NY. He also counseled private clients at his own private practice, Avalon Counseling for several years. Gregory had a deep appreciation for various types of music. In his earlier years he played the drums for local bands such as The Belaires and The Henchman. They were popular bands in Amsterdam in the 1950s and 1960s who generously gave of their time to many charitable events. Gregory was a very generous and caring person who had a fun personality and loved, above all else, helping people; which he did quite successfully over his 25 year career. He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends. Gregory is survived by his wife Theresa DiCaprio Turek; his daughter Melissa Turek; his brother Clarence "Bud" Turek; nephews Bruce, Bart, and Barry Turek, multiple cousins; and friend for over 50 years, Ellen Stone. Gregory is predeceased by his parents Anna and Joseph Turek. In accordance with Greg's wishes there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers Greg would have appreciated donations to a charity that he helped create and that was very close to his heart; the domestic violence program at Catholic Charities, 1 Kimball Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
