Obituary of Alfred C

Alfred C. Zemken, 82, of Mayfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born April 17, 1934 in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Helmet and Mary Rea Zemken. Alfred attended Canajoharie schools and worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years retiring in 1989. He was an avid outdoorsmen who loved camping, fishing, hunting and cutting wood for his stove. Alfred also was very proud of his yearly garden. Survivors include his daughters Debbie Henry (Michael) of Mayfield, Terry Merrill (Arthur) of Prosper, TX, Amy Sue Zemken of Gloversville and Mary Beth Dingman (John) of Palatine Bridge; sister Evelyn Masterpole of Rotterdam; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; beloved friend Carol Slater of Mayfield and his loyal companion, his Basset Hound Daisy. Alfred is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers John and Sonny Zemken; sisters Priscila, Helen, Josephine, Elizabeth and Bertha and his granddaughter Davia. At Alfred's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Alfred's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the James A.
