Obituary of Edward W. Cassidy

Mr. Edward W. Cassidy, age 77, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, formerly of Amsterdam, NY passed away Saturday July 2, 2016 at Morris Hall at St. Joseph Skilled Nursing Center in New Jersey. Born on November 16, 1938 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Edward Robert and Grace Margaret Langley Cassidy. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a graduate of the former St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam. He went on to graduate from Siena College in Loudonville, NY and received his Master Degree from the University at Albany in Education and Guidance. Ed dedicated his life to Teaching and was employed as a Math Teacher for many years by the Greater Amsterdam School District. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was very active in the church. He donated countless hours to the church and was part of the Collections Team on Sundays at the church. Ed enjoyed bowling and bowled in various leagues throughout Amsterdam. He was very involved in his community and was the past treasurer of the Retired Teacher's Association in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Amsterdam Sportsman's Club on Reid St. and was a social member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post #701 in Amsterdam. Mr. Cassidy was an avid fan of the Saratoga Race Course, the NY Mets and Knicks and attended many games. Edward is survived by his sister, Pat (Michael) Melnyk of Mays Landing, NJ, Nieces and nephews, Lisa Melnyk (Andrew Hendry) of Lawrenceville, NJ. Dr. Kristen Melnyk (Dr. John Roesler) of Malibu, CA. Great-nieces and nephews, Kathryn and Ian Hendry and Alex and Bradley Roesler. Several cousins and friends also survive. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00A.M .at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main St., Amsterdam with Father Jeffrey L'Arche presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday July 8, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.
