Obituary of George Engel
George H. Engel Sr., 74, of Cranes Hollow Rd., Cranesville, passed away Saturday at Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam on September 4, 1930 a son of William and Mary Templeton Engel. He attended Amsterdam schools before later moving to Schenectady.
He joined the U.S. Air Force and Served during the Korean War. After the war he joined the 109th Stratton Air National Guard unit in Scotia for 20 years.
He worked for a time at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 25 years. After retiring from G.E. he held several part-time jobs his last being at the former Mr. Discount Grocery Store in Amsterdam.
He was a member of the Galway Fish and Game Club and affiliated with the Cranesville Reformed Church.
His first wife- Rosemary Engel passed away in June of 1985.
He then married Barbara Reichel Engel on August 15th 1987.

& William Engel of Amsterdam
Two Daughters- Kathy Engel of Perth, NY
& Mary Ann Mars of Johnstown, NY
One Brother- William Engel of Broadalbin
Step-Children- Amy Reichel Stefanucci of Encino, CA
Robert Reichel of Burlington, VT and Thomas Reichel of Hagaman, NY
Three Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by a brother- Hugh Engel
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jacob Marvel presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday morning from 10-11:00A.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cranesville Reformed Church, The American Diabetes Association or to the American Lung Association all c/o the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
