Obituary of Raymond D. Walsh
Raymond D. Walsh, Sr., 73, of Quackenbush St., passed away Thursday at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam.
Born in Richmondville, NY on April 9, 1931, the son of Ralph and Alice Gordon Walsh, he came to this area as an infant where he has since resided. At one time, he owned and operated a service station on East Main Street in Amsterdam and also was in the carpentry business. Later, he worked for Coleco and for Hasbro before retiring in 1989 due to illness. Raymond was a lifetime member of the Ft. Hunter Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Amsterdam.
On June 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Caroline Bollacker. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons; Raymond Walsh, Jr. and his wife Michele of Ft. Johnson, Roy Walsh and his wife Lorna of Fonda, Frederick Walsh and his wife Janna, and John Walsh, all of Ft. Hunter; eight grandchildren; four brothers; Ward Walsh of Sprakers, Ralph Walsh of Mauquin, Va., William Walsh of Amsterdam and Charles Walsh of Ft. Johnson; seven sisters; Edna Pierce, Roselyn Dybowski, Dorothy Vineholt all of Amsterdam; Florence Waite of Ashland, Va., Muriel Schlicht of Schenectady; Wanetta Klingbeil of Lancaster, Pa., and Laura Ann Zugata of Ballston Lake; nieces and nephews.
Raymond was predeceased by a son, Randy Walsh, his parents, a brother, Harold Walsh and a sister, Rose Marie Walsh.
A service will be held on Monday at 2:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. John Califano, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service. Spring interment is in Hagaman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ft. Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, Ft. Hunter, NY 12069 or the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
