Obituary of Donald H. Schaufelberg

Donald H. Schaufelberg, 86, of State Highway 30, died Wednesday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born December 7, 1918, in Minaville, New York, he was the son of Fred and Elizabeth McMichael Schaufelberg. He attended Amsterdam Schools and the Cobleskill Agricultural School. Mr. Schaufelberg co-owned and operated with his late brother Earl the Chuctanunda Dairy Farm in the Town of Florida until his retirement in 1982. He was a 6th generation dairy farmer. Memberships include; charter and life member of the Florida Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Florida Grange, member of the Farm Bureau, director of the Fair Board of Montgomery County Agricultural Society, Member of the Civil Defense during WII, one of the members of the Interstate Bulk Milk Producer Co-operative, member of the Florida Reformed Church. On October 24, 1948, he was married to the former Pearl Dylong, who died November 8, 1994. Survivors include; two sons, Gordon F. Schaufelberg and his wife Marie and Donald D. Schaufelberg of the Town of Florida; two sisters, Marjorie Hugg of Minaville and Jeanne Schaufelberg of Amsterdam, six grandchildren, Brendon, Adam, Abbey Ballard, Joshua, Lucas and Alexis; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Florida Reformed Church, Route 30 South, Minaville, NY with the Rev. Derek DeJager officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Chuctanunda Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A Legacy Candle Ceremony will be held Monday evening at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Florida Reformed Church.
