Obituary of Douglas W. Jinks
Mr. Douglas W. Jinks, age 93, of James St., Gloversville, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home following a short illness.
He was born October 10, 1911 in Worcester, England, the son of Horace and Ada Weaver Jinks. He owned and operated the Custom Measuring Company in Gloversville for over 35 years, and later worked for the Jones & Naudin Inc. until his retirement.
Mr. Jinks was a former Deacon and choir member at the First Baptist Church of Gloversville, and a member of the former DeMolay Association. He sang at the First Presbyterian Church, as well as at other churhes in the area. He was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club and the Johnstown Moose Lodge. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Kingsboro Golf Club, and also bowled in leagues at the Johnstown Bowling Center.
He was married July 3, 1933 to Sophia E. Fuller who died March 2, 1997. Survivors include three children, Dr. David C. Jinks and his wife Nancy of Chicago, IL; Daryl A. Jinks and his wife Sharon of Gloversville, and Diane M. Estrada and her husband Luis of Clifton Park; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Dr. Douglas D. Jinks and Danny F. Jinks, and by a brother Cecil Jinks.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday with the Rev. Carson O. Mouser officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
