Obituary of Elizabeth A. Tyrrell
Elizabeth A. ?Betty? Dwyer Tyrrell, age 90, died Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided the past 10 years. Adored and loved by her family, she will be missed and thought of often.
She was born November 15, 1914 in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of Francis and Amelia Stryker Dwyer. First employed as a stock girl at the former F.W. Wollworth Company in Gloversville, she later became a nurses aide and worked at the old Nathan Littauer Hospital, then at the Fulton County Infirmary, the new Nathan Littauer Hospital, and then at the Fulton County Nursing Service.
Mrs. Tyrrell was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Johnstown, and Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. She was also a member of the Ida McGiness Senior Citizens Club and The Mohawk Council.
She was married July 2, 1934 to George W. Tyrrell who died August 12, 1989. She is survived by her four children, Arthur J. Tyrrell of North Carolina, William G. Tyrrell and Melvin C. Tyrrell of Gloversville, and Karen Hawkins of Johnstown, four brothers and sisters, Charles Dwyer of Johnstown, Paul Dwyer of Gloversville, Marion Hansen of Tribes Hill and Genevieve Pileggi of New Smyrna Beach, FL; four Grandchildren, William and David Tyrrell of Gloversville, Darla Tyrrell of Houston and Jeffrey Tyrrell of Perth; many great grandchildren including Christina Frasier of Gloversville, and Caderon Tyrrell and Caitlin VanDerbeck of Johnstown; three great great grandsons, Kanan, Keather and Kyler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Tyrrell was preceded in death by her siblings Melvin Dwyer, Mildred Russo, Francis Dwyer, Anna Marie Calendrila and Richard Dwyer.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday with the Rev. Carolyn E. Campbell officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville.
