Obituary of Bernice M. Eaton

Bernice M. Eaton 87, of Hammondtown Rd., passed away peacefully Saturday morning. Born October 21, 1917 in the Town Of Amsterdam where she lived her entire life, she was the daughter of George and Hulda Nadler Menge. She was a 1935 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. For forty four years she was employed by Amsterdam Printing & Litho as a purchasing agent, and later as secretary for Everett Singer before she retired in 1980. Bernice was a member of St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved being with her family and spending winters in Dade City, Fla. Until her health failed, she was an avid gardener known for the beautiful vegetables she cultivated and cared for. Her loving family includes her husband, James P. Eaton; her daughter Harol Holt Gutowski and her husband Richard of Amsterdam; two step-sons: William Eaton of Bern, NY and Brian Eaton of Albany; a brother: George Menge of Mayfield; her sisters: Arbutus Patterson of Dade City, Fla., Madeline Burr of Gloversville, Hulda James and Darlene Barker both of the Town Of Amsterdam; a grandson, Richard Gutowski Jr. and his wife Tracy; and a step grandson James Eaton and his wife Erin; nieces, nephews also survive. Bernice was predeceased by a brother Herbert Menge and a sister, Dorothy Gross. Services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will take place in the spring in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
