Obituary of Gretchen L. Hughson

Gretchen L. Hughson, age 88, formerly of Rochester, NY, resident of Ridge Road, Canajoharie passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on April 22, 1916 in Mountain Home, Idaho, she was the daughter of Frank and Marion Keener Schweitzer. Gretchen lived in Rochester for over 52 years until moving to Canajoharie in 2004. She was the owner and operator of the bowling alley, Sunset Lanes in Rochester for many years until selling the business and retiring. Gretchen loved to sew as a hobby and was a great seamstress, loved to spend time working in her flower gardens around her home and was an excellent pianist. She was predeceased in 2004, by her husband, J. Donald Hughson, whom she married in 1973. She was also predeaceased by 3 sisters, Frances Dick, MaryCaroline Baird, and Kathryn Morris. Survivors include her son, Jeffery Sweemer and his wife Suzie of Rochester, a daughter Cassandra Bailey and her husband William of Florida; a brother, John Schweitzer and his wife Irene of Taylors, South Carolina; a sister Dora Hewitt of Ruidoso, New Mexico; 2 grandchildren, Christine Conley and David Bailey; 4 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Arielle, Kaitlynn, and Ashley; and Gretchen was looking forward to welcoming her first great-great grandchild in June.
