Obituary of Marian F. Brewster
Marian F. Brewster, 92, of Machold Ave., passed away peacefully Wednesday morning.
Born in the Bronx on Sept. 4, 1912, the daughter of Timothy and Nora O?Shea Sullivan she lived in Amsterdam since the age of seven. Marian was a graduate of St. Mary?s Institute and later the Oneonta State Teachers College. For twenty-two years, she was employed by the Greater Amsterdam School District as an elementary teacher before she retired in 1976. Active in the community, she was a volunteer for over twenty years at St. Mary?s Hospital and was a member of the hospital auxiliary. She was also a member of the Oneonta Alumni Association, the New York State and the Amsterdam Retired Teachers Assoc. Marian was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church.
On October 14, 1938 she was united in marriage to Morris F. Brewster, who predeceased her in 1970. Her dear companion, Andrew DeLuca also passed away, in 2003. Marian will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family including her sons David R. and his wife Patricia Brewster of Ballston Spa and Thomas J. and his wife Ardeena Brewster of Amsterdam; her brother Kenneth Sullivan of Amsterdam; her grandchildren, Kimberly Poteralski, Sherrie Brewster, James Brewster and Kelly Pagles; great-grandchildren Kyle Poteralski and Douglas and Heather Halterman; a niece and a nephew.
Services are Friday morning at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Thursday evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Of Amsterdam, 246 Manny?s Corner Rd.
