Obituary of Kate A. Collins-Hyden
Kate A. Collins ? Hyden, 54, of Galupville Road, passed away suddenly Thursday morning at Ellis Hospital.
Born in Schenectady on Sept. 22, 1950, the daughter of Matthew and Irene Goodspeed Syzdek, she lived in Amsterdam for a number of years. She attended St. Stanislaus? Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Kate studied art in Boston and Arizona. She was an accomplished artist, and loved to work with oils, painting murals and faux finishes as a contract artist.
Kate had an incredible love and devotion for animals. She also studied philosophy, which led her to embrace Zen Buddhism in 1996. On June 24, 1989, she was married to Robert H. Hyden. Together they lived in Arizona for fifteen years, before returning to this area in 2000.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her mother and step-father, Irene and William Pilchen of Ovett, Miss.; her father, Matthew Syzdek of Ft. Johnson; her mother and father-in-law; Dinah and Irving Hyden of Amsterdam; a sister: Eileen Capogna of Ovett, Miss.; nieces; Jessica Collins & Amy Hyden; nephews: Zack and Chad Capogna; brother in law Steven and sister in law Maria Hyden, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
A service in remembrance of Kate will take place on Sunday at 1:30 pm at the Zen Mountain Monastery in Mt. Tremper, NY. Relatives and friends are invited. The interment will follow in the monastery cemetery. Please log on to the monastery web site at
