Obituary of Grace M. Kearns
Mrs. Grace M. Leszczynski Kearns, 71, of Broadalbin, died Tuesday April 12, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness. Devoted and loving family members were at her side.
Born on November 23, 1933 in Saratoga, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Sieminowicz Leszczynski. She graduated from Broadalbin High School in 1951 and St. Mary?s School of Nursing of Amsterdam in 1954. She worked for several years at St. Mary?s Hospital, was operating room supervisor, and was a private duty nurse for the late Arthur Chalmers of Broadalbin.
On April 4, 1970 she married Dr. Richard D. Kearns who died January 29, 2002. She worked with her husband in his private medical practice on Saratoga Avenue in Broadalbin until their retirement in 1986.
An avid and excellent golfer, Mrs. Kearns was a member of Antlers Country Club, Amsterdam. She was also well known for her rose gardens at her home, which she lovingly cultivated.
Mrs. Kearns believed the book of life is written at birth. Her´s was a beautiful story that has no ending, as her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were priviliged to know and love her.
She is survived by two sisters, Lottie Slezak of Amsterdam and Stella John O'Brien of Schenectady; close niece Cindy G. Livingston of Broadalbin; step children Pamela Nick Terlaak Poot, Ingrid Brian Petoff and John Deborah Kearns, all of Broadalbin; Claudia P. Kearns Ronald Birn of Basking Ridge, NJ; and Marion Marcel Matt Bangert of Beverly, MA; 10 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kearns was predeceased by her sisters Jennie Leszczynski, Helen Kitchner , Marcella Warner, Sadie Livingston; brothers Steve and Henry Leszczynski; stepdaughter Shanley Murray and step grandson Ryan Murray.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 PM Thursday, April 14th at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will take place at 10:00 AM Friday. Interment will take place at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps., P.O. Box 23, Broadalbin, or to the Broadalbin Kennyetto Fire Company Inc., P.O. Box 295, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
