Obituary of Robert Lee Sanders
Robert Lee Sanders Sr., 62, of Edson Street, Amsterdam, N.Y., died Tuesday morning at his home after a long illness.
Born January 23, 1943, in Fort Miller, New York, he was the son of Richard Louis and Margaret Brockway Sanders Sr.. He attended Schuylerville schools and moved to Amsterdam in 1990.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Bob was employed by the Greenwich Cemetery, Great Escape and later worked for the School House Transports in Amsterdam.
He loved his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed working with wood and loved to go fishing.
On May 6, 1988, he married the former Shelia Harris.
Besides his wife he is survived by; four sons, Robert L. Sanders Jr. and Michael Sanders of Greenwich, N.Y., Harry Sanders of Hudson Falls, N.Y. and Malcom Hughes of Granville, N.Y.; three daughters, Angel Hughes and Ginger York of Amsterdam, and Virginia Hughes of Charleston, Illinois; a sister, Ann Van Arnum of Fort Miller, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his favorite sister-in-law Virginia Eads of Granville, N.Y.
He was predeceased by a son, Vincent Hughes who died in 1992 and a brother, Richard Sanders who died in 2003.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial will take place with full military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
