Obituary of Lewis Campanile

Lewis Campanile, 90, of Madison Street in Gloversville, died Monday April 25 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness. Mr. Campanile born in Gloversville July 14, 1914 the son of the late Ralph and Maria DeSimone Campanile and was educated in the Gloversville Schools. He served his country during World War II in the Army, being honorably discharged in 1945. He was a glove cutter, and worked for various local companies prior to the war. He was also a trained carpenter, and built several local homes. Mr. Campanile worked as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at Nathan Littauer Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1979. He was of the Catholic faith and was an avid baseball fan. Mr. Campanile is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Savarese whom he married on May 29, 1938. He is also survived by his son Gerald Campanile, and sister Carolyn Renzi, all of Gloversville, and a brother Chris Campanile of Tucson, Arizona, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased in 1990 by his brother, Thomas Campanile. Cremation will take place at the Park View Crematorium in Schenectady. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown, NY. Arrangements entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
