Obituary of Irene Tonsing
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Grandmother, Irene Tonsing.
Irene passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at age 98.
She was predeceased by Clarence M. Cann, her husband of 27 years, and her second husband Julius Tonsing of 17 years. She is also predeceased by her grandson James Dean Cann.
Irene sadly lost her first husband Clarence when he was at the young age of 49. Irene and Clarence had six children during their marriage.
She is survived by her beloved sons George and Fred Cann. She is also survived by four other children, Irene Burakiewicz, Clarence Cann, Barbara Haefner, and Alice Walther.
She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Before moving to Bleecker in Gloversville, she resided in the Bronx, New York. In December of 2001 Irene moved to New Jersey to live with her grandson George and his family.
Aside from her love of gardening, Irene was fond of animals. She especially loved feeding and caring for the wild birds.
Her son Fred was her source of strength and pride. Irene treasured the visits she had with her sons George and Fred during her later years.
Irene was always known to treat everyone with love, respect and consideration regardless of their position.
Throughout her life, Irene made many friends. I would like to give special mention to Sylvia Sofia, Jennie Tedaldi, Winnefred Brown and Raymond Skipper Adams.
I would also like to give a special thanks to all the doctors and staff at the Woodcrest Health Care Center in New Milford, New Jersey that cared for my Grandmother.
Grandma, you will truly be missed by many family members. You will be especially missed by your grandson George and your sons George and Fred.
