Obituary of Dorothea R. Alvord
Mrs. Dorothea Rowley Alvord, 91, of Gloversville, died Thursday, April 27, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a brief illness.
She was born in Troy, NY on September 24, 1913, the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie Huntington Rowley. She was educated in Gloversville schools and began her working career as a cosmetics buyer for the former Martin & Naylor Dept. Store. She later was employed at Gen?s Fashionette and lastly was employed as a bookkeeper for the Genesee Auto Supply Company for several years, retiring many years ago.
Mrs. Alvord was of the Episcopal faith and a member of the Cayadutta Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Dorothea was married August 20, 1938 to Hallock B. Alvord who died in 1985. Survivors include
her daughters, Dorothea ?Dottie? Studenic and her husband William of Gloversville, and Patricia Coloney and her husband Frank of Wells; her grandchildren, Leslie Smrtic, Richard Romano, William Romano, J. Michael Romano, Beth Roller and Kurt Roller; twelve great grandchildren, a sister in-law, Amelia Rowley of Arizona; several nieces and nephews, and her special cat Dolly.
She was predeceased by her sisters Mildred McDonough, Ruth Reynolds and Marion Finn; brothers Harry, Edward, Paul, Robert and Donald Rowley, and an infant brother; also two grandsons, Andrew and Alfred Studenic.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
