Obituary of Delores Melendez

Delores O. Melendez, 72, of Elizabeth Street, passed away Saturday at St. Mary?s Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 15, 1933, she was the daughter of Conrado and Carmela Ortiz Melendez. Educated there, she moved to Brooklyn and later in 1990 to Amsterdam where she has since resided. A homemaker, Delores was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She will be remembered as a loving and kind woman who unselfishly gave of herself to others. She was the widow of Horacio Alomar. Survivors include her children; Angel Alomar of Puerto Rico, Jose Alomar of Amsterdam, Rafael Alomar of Albany; Elena Alomar and Carmen Colon of Puerto Rico, Auria and Evelyn Alomar both of Amsterdam; twenty grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Delores was predeceased by an infant son and daughter. Two sisters in Puerto Rico also survive. Services will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in Puerto Rico. Calling hours are Monday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
