Obituary of Ruthellen Collins
Ruthellen Collins, age 87 of Gloversville, entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, April 30, 2005 at Mount Loretto Nursing Home, Amsterdam.
She was born February 24, 1918 in the town of Sharon, NY, the daughter of Elmer and Eliza Gossweiler Collins Sr. She resided in Schenectady and came to Gloversville in 1948. Employed as a private duty home health aide in the area, Ruthellen previously worked at Johnstown Knitting Company, at Crescendo Glove Company, and as a waitress at the Union Hall Inn.
A history buff, Ruthellen also enjoyed picking berries, gardening and nature. She also bowled in leagues at Perry Lanes in Johnstown.
She is survived by five children, Robert Burl Rickard II Mary of Greenfield Center, Katherine J. VanAlstyne Russell and Phyllis M. Lane David and Bonnie Olendorf John, all of Gloversville, and Ann S. Brown of Troy, Idaho; two brothers, Gerald Collins and Ronald Collins; two sisters, Doris Tillapaugh and Jean Guay; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchidren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruthellen was predeceased by her daughter Ellen Rickard, son in law Gary A. Brown, three brothers and six sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
