Obituary of Aleksandra Gerutis
Mrs. Aleksandra Gerutis, 100, formerly of Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam passed away Thursday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam where she had been a resident.
Born on October 11, 1904 in Tukum, Latvia she was the daughter of Jonas and Ursula Mozgiras. Mrs. Gerutis immigrated to the United States and moved to Amsterdam with her family in 1949.
She was a homemaker and also was employed as a seamstress at various shops in Amsterdam until her retirement.
Mrs. Gerutis was a communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
She married Jonas Gerutis on June 28, 1927. He passed away on March 27, 1978. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Joe Kot on January 31, 2002.
Survivors include a son, John C. Gerutis and his wife Eleanor of Amsterdam; a daughter, Regina Kot and her husband John of Amsterdam; 4 grandchildren, Joe, Melissa, Gerard, and Alan; and 4 great grandchildren, Madeline, Ashley, Robert, and Tara.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam followed By a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 9:00 at St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church, 260 E. Main St., Amsterdam with the Rev. Stanley Swierzowski officiating. The Burial will take place in the St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling Hours will be on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Casimir?s Church Memorial Fund.
