Obituary of Ronald R. Wilmot
Mr. Ronald R. Wilmot, 67, of State Highway 334, Fonda passed away after a long illness Sunday morning at his home with his family by his side. Born on March 28, 1938 in Amsterdam, NY the son of William and Madeline Brennen Wilmot, he was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Wilmot was employed as a heavy equipment operator by the Montgomery County Highway Department for over 33 years until his retirement in 1992. He also served as the dog warden in the Town of Mohawk for 17 years. He is a life member of the Town of Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department with 35 years of active service and where held various positions including, Sergeant of Arms, Lieutenant, Second Assistant Chief, and Captain. He was also a past member of the Fonda-Fultonville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to spend time hunting with his sons. Survivors include his wife, Lula K. Koons Wilmot whom he married on September 28, 1957; 6 sons, Ronald R. Wilmot Jr. of Fonda, Timothy W. Wilmot and his wife Donna of Fonda, Michael H. Wilmot and his wife Barb of Fultonville, Robert E. Wilmot of Fonda, Anthony Tony S. Wilmot and his wife Debbie of Fonda, and Mark H. Wilmot and his wife Mary Ellen of Fonda; a daughter, Rebecca A. Wilmot and her companion Joseph Rose, Sr. of Fonda; a brother, Roger Wilmot and his wife Sharon of Ft. Johnson; 3 sisters, Roberta Cuozzo and her husband Joseph of Amsterdam, Kathy Vrooman and her husband Harold of Amityville, NY, and Madeline Weidman and her husband Alton of Warrensburg, NY; a sister in-law, Brenda Wilmot of Lowville, NY; 14 grandchildren, Ronald III, Ryan, Ross, Timothy Jr., Amanda, Richard, Allyssa, Luke, Robert Jr., Chris, Brittany, Krista, and Kory Wilmot, and Charles Rose; 3 step grandchildren, Tina, Brittany and Ashley Rose; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Wilmot was predeceased by his brother, Robert Wilmot. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church, 21 Broadway, Fonda with the Rev. Christopher DeGraaf officiating. The burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. Calling hours will be today from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.
