Obituary of Vincent C. DiLorenzo
Vincent C. DiLorenzo, 88, of Swan Street, passed away peacefully Tuesday noon at St. Mary?s Hospital with his family at his side.
Born in Schenectady on October 9, 1916, the son of Angelo and Antoinette Conduzio DiLorenzo, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He resided in Amsterdam for many years, and was employed as a machinist for the General Electric Company for over thirty years. For several years, he also was the proprietor of the former Vin?s Liquors on East Main Street. Vincent was a former union board member and shop steward of the IUE AFL CIO Local of Schenectady.
During World War II, he served his country with the US Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations, being discharged as a Fireman first class in 1945. He was a member and past commander of Amvets Post 0021 of Amsterdam, and the Horace J. Inman Senior Center.
He was a faithful communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church.
On June 16, 1940, he married the former Violet Yurkon. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1983.
His loving family includes his dear friend, Molly Miseno of Amsterdam; his son Dennis V. DiLorenzo of Johnstown; his daughter Debra and her husband George Shuttleworth of Amsterdam; brothers Frank DiLorenzo of Burnt Hills and Hugo DiLorenzo of Schenectady; sisters Ida Ellis and Jean DiLorenzo both of Schenectady; two grandsons, George and Paul Shuttleworth, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Dominick DiLorenzo, also predeceased him.
Funeral services are Thursday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are this evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd. Amsterdam 12010.
