Obituary of Ruth M. Peters
Ruth M. Peters, 82, of Thayer Road, died Sunday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam, after a long illness.
Born February 14, 1923, in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of William and Ida Menager Nicholas. She was a life long resident and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Ruth was employed as a teacher?s aide for the Greater Amsterdam School District, working at the Town of Florida School and later the Barkley Elementary School before retiring in 1983.
She was a member, former president and former treasurer of the John J. Wyszomirski Post # 701, American Legion Ladies? Auxiliary, was a lifetime member of the Amsterdam P.T.A., Amsterdam Area Garden Club, and once served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Office of the Aging in Amsterdam.
Ruth enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
On August 19, 1945, she married Robert J. Peters, who died on her birthday, February 14, 1996.
Survivors include her loving family; a son, William R. Peters of the Town of Florida; a daughter, Pam Saul and her husband Charles Chuck of the Town of Florida; a brother, William Nicholas, Jr. of Fort Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Clara Ahearn of Clinton, Massachusetts and Alice Aldi of Rotterdam Junction; a daughter?in?law, Minnie Spencer, of the Town of Florida; a grandson, Erik Peters of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Ruth was predeceased by a son, Edward Peters, who died in 1983; and three siblings, Ethel Serviss, Edward Nicholas and Frances Duffney.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. John A. Califano officiating. Cremation will take place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral from 11 to 12 noon. A Legacy Candle Ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 11:50 a.m.
