Obituary of Gordon A. Brown
Gordon A. Brown, 62, of Amsterdam died unexpectedly on Monday July 25 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born July 20, 1943 in Gloversville, the son of the late Nellie Hopkins and Scott Brown. He was educated in the Perth Schools and lived most of his life in Perth before moving to Amsterdam recently.
Mr. Brown was a self-employed drywall taper for many years until his retirement in 2001. He was of the Protestant faith. He will be lovingly remembered for his dedication to his work and fondness of horse racing, especially at the Saratoga Raceway.
He was married October 7, 1973 to Ida M. Goss, who survives. Other survivors include five sons, Bill, Scott, Jene Paul and his wife Heather, Matthew and Justin Brown, all of Amsterdam; and two daughters, Jennifer and Heather Brown, also of Amsterdam. Mr. Brown is also survived by his brothers Chester and Richard Brown of Perth; his sisters Wanda Howard of Broadalbin and Avis Passino of Johnstown and his half-sisters, Florence Clark of Broadalbin, and Edith Spencer and Nellie Rowback, both of Gloversville. Mr. Brown leaves behind five grandchildren, Cassandra, Jason, Nicholas, Jordon & Ashley.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 28 at 11 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in Gordon?s memory may be made to the family in the care of the funeral home.
